Untapped Alberta – Indie Music Series in Red Deer October 24

From Brittany Morse to the members of Alberta Music via Facebook.

Subject: UNTAPPED ALBERTA CONCERT SERIES- COMING TO YOUR COMMUNITY!

Alberta Music is excited to partner with Big Rock Brewery, the Alberta Foundation of the Arts, and Alberta Treasury Branch to present “Untapped Alberta”, a five date – concert series to profile Alberta artists.

The concerts will be held in five communities across the province – Calgary, Medicine Hat, Beaverlodge, Edmonton, and Red Deer. Musicians were selected from the Big Rock Untapped Artist program and from the recommendations of the Alberta Foundation of the Arts, Alberta Music, and ATB Financial.

Tickets will be available to purchase for $10 each at specified local ATB Financial branches and participating businesses. Ticket price includes admission and ONE free refreshment (Big Rock beer, water or pop). All concert proceeds will be donated to local community groups chosen by each community.

The primary purpose of developing this concert series is to demonstrate how a partnership with ATB Financial, Big Rock, Alberta Culture & Community Spirit, and Alberta Music can work to introduce a grassroots event in Alberta markets. The partnership will ideally provide exposure for Alberta’s emerging artists and raise awareness about the arts.

The Red Deer show is at the Vat, October 24, 2009 and here are the artists performing:

Domino-
A rockin’ country band hailing from Central Alberta. Chris Scott, Kent Nixon, Luanne Carl, Scott McKnight and Russ Carl make up this dynamic five piece band featuring five lead singers. The group was formed five short years ago, however the members bring years of musical backgrounds to the table, and the listener never quite knows what they’re going to hear. Their song list is extensive, and they are a very busy playing band. From Rodeos, festivals, corporate functions and country honky tonks, this group has played them all is aiming for more and more. They feature country music, country rock and classic rock in their set list, and even have a female bassist. Domino is sure to please, and are heading for great things. Their first CD was released in 2007 under the name damnedifiknow, and they are currently working on their second CD, hoping to release it later this year. Domino are proud of their achievements thus far, such as performing at The Window on the West Stage at the Calgary Stampede this year, and at Winston Chrurchill Square for a Taste of Edmonton.

Lindsay Ell-
Often compared as the female version of John Mayer, Lindsay Ell’s recordings and live presence come from her profound talent as a singer, songwriter and musician. The 20 year pop recording act based in Calgary has recently performed in front of 20,000, shared the stage with Blues Pioneer Buddy Guy, performed at the coveted SXSW festival in Austin, TX, showcased at Junofest in Vancouver and will be performing with Music Legends Bachman Cummings. Lindsay’s most recent project “Alone” was released in early 2009.

Soul Side In-
A melodic rock quartet with a sound born of many musical influences. Their debut album delivers with enticing tones and an certain dark charm. Featuring four members, this young band has found a stylistic presence all their own. With an arsenal of well-written and thoughtful songs, Soul Side In is also a uniquely energetic band to see live. Since October ‘08 Soul Side In has toured and ‘gigged’ with the likes of Default, State Of Shock, Age Of Days, Buckcherry, The Trews, Mobile, The Watchmen, Thronley, Rev Theory and Inward Eye. With a resume starting to shape up, a record to be released across Canada, and an entertaining live show, this is a band with their eye on the prize…and from the looks of things; they are off to a running start!

It’s exciting that Domino from Stettler is in on this. They’re a great band and Luanne Carl’s a fantastic singer. The only question I have is . . . why not more talent from Central Alberta? Great talent here!
